      In Chinese, we have single Chinese Characters (we called them “字“). For example, “好“ which means ”good“ or ”very“, “你“ which means “you”, but when we put these two characters together ,we got “你好”( We called it “词“), this means ”hello“.
      So if you want to look up the meaning of a single character(字), you need to use”字典” and when you want to look up the meaning of a whole vocabulary(词), you can use “词典” .
